KNOXVILLE, Iowa – Knoxville Hospital & Clinics is pleased to welcome three new general surgeons to its staff, Dr. Dapka Baccam (pronounced Ba Com), Dr. Paul Conte (pronounced Con Tay), and Dr. Tim Mayfield.

Dr. Baccam, specializing in general surgery, graduated with honors from the University of Iowa College of Medicine in 1995. Having more than 20 years of diverse experiences, especially general surgery, Dr. Baccam affiliates with many hospitals, including the Clarke County Hospital, Lucas County Health Center, and cooperates with other doctors and specialists in many other medical groups.

Dr. Conte, specializing in general and thoracic surgery, graduated cum laude from Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU). Following residency and fellowship at the University Wisconsin-Madison, Dr. Conte has been in full-time practice of clinical medicine since 2001. In 2002, Dr. Conte pioneered the use of the Da Vinci surgical robot in Iowa, first using the system at Iowa Methodist Medical Center to perform an esophageal surgery.

Dr.  Mayfield, specializing in general surgery, received his medical degree from the University of Missouri, Columbia School of Medicine, graduating with honors. He is affiliated with several Iowa hospitals, including KHC, and also cooperates with other doctors and physicians in medical groups, including Iowa Specialty Physicians. He has been in practice since 2005 and is certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).

Drs. Baccam, Conte, and Mayfield will be performing a wide range of surgical procedures at KHC from breast biopsy, to varicose veins, gallbladder removal, hernia repair, hemorrhoids, colon resection, thyroid removals, lung surgery, ultrasounds, and more.
