Rachael and Mary Jane

Rachael and Mary JaneKNOXVILLE – Rachel Davis, a Registered Nurse in Wound Care at Knoxville Hospital & Clinics, was recognized for her dedication to the nursing profession, patients, and their family members during Knoxville Hospital & Clinics’ seventh annual DAISY award ceremony held on Monday, May 7.

The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses was presented to Rachel, who has been employed at Knoxville Hospital & Clinics for 15 years. She will next be recognized at the Mercy Health Network of Central Iowa’s CEO meeting on June 15.

Part of Rachel’s nomination read, “Every day Rachel goes above and beyond for every one of her patients. Wound care can be a very scary, painful, and intimidating for patients, but she makes all her patients feel relaxed and at ease in her care. I have had the pleasure of getting to shadow and watch her in action. As she does wound care, she carries on a conversation with the patients to make them feel comfortable, but also squeezes in teaching moments so patients know exactly what is happening and how their wound should progress and heal.”

The DAISY Award was founded in 1999 in memory of J. Patrick Barnes who died at age 33 from complications of ITP (Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura), thus giving name to award “Diseases Attacking the Immune System” DAISY.

The DAISY Award is an annual nursing award at Knoxville Hospital & Clinics to be rewarded during the annual service awards ceremony every May. Nomination forms are available at Knoxville Hospital & Clinics. The nominations are reviewed and the winner is selected by the Operations Team.

Previous Daisy Award winners are Cheryl James, Holly Shinn, Kellie Jones, Elizabeth Hembrook, and Leah Sims.
