First in Iowa

Knoxville Hospital & Clinics (KHC) is marking a milestone this month by being the first medical facility in Iowa to offer total knee replacement surgery using NAVIO robotics-assisted technology. The pioneering approach just received final clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration.

KHC began performing partial knee replacements using the NAVIO system in January, and it has been widely accepted by patients.

With both the partial and total knee replacement, the NAVIO system is designed to deliver consistent and accurate results through the utilization of a robotics-assisted hand piece, 3D surgical planning software, and special cutting guides, all of which enable better patient outcomes.

The system enables precise implant positioning and a customized solution for each patient. And, unlike other robotics-assisted platforms, the NAVIO system does not require a preoperative CT scan.

Free educational seminar

This milestone marks the first time orthopedic surgeon Dr. Todd Peterson will have access to the robotics-assisted technology when implanting the total knee system. He has already started to discuss this option with patients and will address the value of this breakthrough technology for joint replacement procedures at his upcoming seminar, June 21, in Indianola.
