KNOXVILLE – Knoxville Hospital & Clinics (KHC) has partnered with Avera eCARE to bring eCare Hospitalist services to Knoxville.
For the past four years, KHC has provided a team of primary care physicians who oversee the role of in-house Hospitalist. As Hospitalist, they specialize in the care of acutely ill patients who are admitted to the hospital and work closely with the patient’s primary care provider to ensure coordination of care. With the implementation of the eCare Hospitalist, the in-house Hospitalists will continue to see patients during the day, while the eCare Hospitalist will provide care in the overnight hours.
With the eCARE Hospitalist services, KHC clinical staff will have access to experienced, board-certified hospitalists and registered nurses who can watch over and respond to patient needs during the overnight hours. If the need arises, the daytime in-house Hospitalist will be called in to assist. The clinical staff will be supported with real-time access to expert internal medicine consultations – including admission, overnight and urgent support – and compliance with evidence-based practices, quality and EMR documentation standards.
Very similar to telemedicine, the eCare Hospitalist enables offsite Hospitalists to communicate remotely to assist clinical staff in performing real-time physical evaluations on patients through face-to-face video technology. The technology is designed to be convenient, user-friendly and secure so that KHC clinical staff can easily transfer from room to room if needed. When assistance is needed in the overnight hours, the clinical staff will be able to simply connect with a team of virtual physicians who will collaborate and supplement our team in order to provide the best possible care for our patients.
“We are excited to implement the eCare Hospitalist service at KHC for our patients. By implementing this service, we are combining the insights of trained Hospitalists to our experienced clinical staff to increase our patient experience. This service will only complement what our team of in-house Hospitalists and staff administers daily,” said Kevin Kincaid, CEO at KHC.
