KNOXVILLE – Congratulations to Jen Miles, Employee Health/Education, for being selected the KHC Hero of the Month at Knoxville Hospital & Clinics.

“Jen is relatively new to her position as Nurse Educator and Employee Health Nurse and is shining in this new role for her. She started at KHC working on Med/Surg. and precepted a lot nursing students and new nurses during orientation to Med/Surg. She has always had a passion to teach and her new role is letting her show off her passion. She has taught classes for the Med/Surg. nurses at staff meetings and was asked by Homestead to teach a class for them! She has been very resourceful, reliable, and a joy to work with. Jen has been working with Knoxville High School on their Future Ready project exciting and preparing high school students for the workforce. She held a boot camp for high school students this summer, carrying on the tradition that Kristina Morgan started, and two of the six students are now working in our hospital—one on Med/Surg., and one in ER as patient care techs. Knoxville High School and the local community have been asking for a CNA class to be available to students again. Through a lot of research and by being resourceful and passionate, Jen has collaborated with DMACC to start a CNA program at the high school—way ahead of what we anticipated to happen. Completion of this class by the high school students will meet one of the criteria for getting into nursing school. Jen has a great team of KHC nurses to help and support this program. The high school, community, nursing homes, and of course, KHC, are excited about how this program will benefit all. Nice job Jen,” read her nomination.

Jen will be in the running for KHC Hero of the Year in May 2019.

The other employees nominated in October were Kevin Swartzendruber and Hayley Dobson.
