Clinic Triage RN – Full-Time

This is a Full-time position working M, T, Th, F and as needed on Saturdays. Will be required to work until 7pm on a rotation.

The Clinic Triage Registered Nurse is responsible for assisting providers to provide quality patient care. This position performs a variety of direct and indirect patient care duties and facilitates the patient’s access to the appropriate level of care by assessing the patient’s needs over the telephone.

Essential Functions

  • Provide professional nursing skills in a defined outpatient clinic setting while functioning within the limits and scope of an RN license.
  • Demonstrate ability to recognize and assess emergency and non-emergency needs of patient.
  • Screen and respond to patient phone calls, consulting with providers to determine medical needs and directing to the Primary Care Provider as necessary.
  • Assist provider with clerical/clinical functions for patients requiring chronic disease coordination.
  • Act as a patient advocate by assisting with the resolution of problems, communication of patient needs and concerns to the appropriate resources.
  • Initiate written, and verbal follow up communication for each encounter.
  • As directed by provider, order medications for patient, and complete medication prior authorizations.
  • Promote wellness and informed decisions by providing health information and prevention concepts.
  • Report results and pertinent information to patients and health care team members.
  • Instruct patients of preparations for tests.
  • Manage patient referral loop.
  • Adjust INR per protocol.
  • Assist provider with procedures and rooming nurse when need arises including giving medications and injections/immunizations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing
  • Current RN license in the State of Iowa
  • Current BLS and Mandatory Reporter certifications
  • Two years of experience in a clinic/physician office preferred
  • Proficient use of computer
  • Required to complete all annual competency training and maintain license and/or certification.
