This is a Full-Time position working Monday – Friday.
The Infusion/Specialty Clinic RN will be responsible for administering chemotherapeutic/biologic agents as well as participating in patient and family teaching regarding chemotherapeutic side effects and oncology disease process. Provide outpatient care to the oncology patient and collaborates with the physician as well as other team members to implement quality care. Assist with Specialty Clinic providers and perform a variety of direct/indirect patient care.
Essential Functions
- Provide direct nursing care for patients primarily in the administration of chemotherapy and related oncologic therapies, as well as general infusions and injections.
- Educate patients and families regarding the side effects of chemotherapy/biotherapy and the oncology disease process.
- Act as a resource for patients, families and other health professionals.
- Coordinate chemotherapy orders with physicians and physician’s nurses.
- Administer chemotherapy, hydration and other medications as ordered.
- Document nursing assessments, patient instruction, fluid and medication administration.
- Perform venipunctures, access implanted ports and maintain central line catheters.
- Maintain knowledge of reimbursement procedures and accurately document chemotherapy charges.
- Monitor patient’s clinical treatment by performing nursing assessments and providing appropriate and timely interventions.
- Follow established policies, procedures and objectives including safety, environmental and/or infection control standards.
- Communicate and coordinate with outside agencies, staff and patients to ensure a continuum of care.
- Properly evaluate laboratory findings.
- Triage patient phone calls and consult with providers to determine patient needs.
- Ability to work with several different specialists and manage their clinics

Job Requirements
- Must be a Registered Nurse with current registration and valid license with the Board of Iowa Nursing
- Chemotherapy certification preferred, or willing to achieve within 6 months of hire.
- Minimum of two years of nursing experience, oncology nursing and chemotherapy administration preferred.
- Must possess those technical skills associated with the tasks and function delineated under specific duties.
- Current ACLS and BLS
- Mandatory reporter training is required.
- Required to complete all annual competency training and maintain license and/or certification.
- Regular and predictable attendance is a required function of this position.
