This is a Part-Time position working 2 days per week on 12-hour shifts. This position qualifies for a sign on bonus of $5,000
Provide professional nursing care to medically ill and trauma patients of all levels of acuity.
Essential Functions:
- Accurately triage patients to determine the patient’s level of severity/priority.
- Assist patients to exam rooms, evaluate the patient and document findings.
- Prepare patient for exam and/or procedures and assist the physician.
- Attend required in-services, annual education requirements, and mandatory department meetings.
- Provide direct patient care, evaluate outcomes, and adjust the nursing care process as needed to ensure optimal patient care.
- Perform a head-to-toe assessment and reassess as needed, including pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
- Monitor the hemodynamic status of the patient and correctly interpret and respond to results.
- Demonstrate knowledge of cardiac monitoring, identifies arrhythmias, and intervenes using ACLS/PALS algorithms and physician orders.
- Maintain accurate and continued nursing documentation including patient history, condition, vital signs, treatment, response to intervention and any change in status.
- Educate patient based on identified learning needs; evaluate the effectiveness of the patient’s learning. Include the family in the teaching as appropriate. Review written discharge instructions with the patient or responsible party.
- Explain delays and waiting times
- Maintain current knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age and patient clinical condition. Calculate, prepare, hang, monitor and discontinue IV fluids and medication drips.
- Arrange for patient transfer to other departments and facilities, complete required documentation.
- Follow departmental policies and procedures, objectives, safety, environmental and infection prevention standards.
- Participate in monthly outdate of medications and supplies. Complete daily stocking duties.
- Supervise and provide learning opportunities for nursing and EMT students.
- Preserve evidence as needed for assault/rape/abuse cases and complete documentation.
- Use critical thinking skills to intervene with appropriate care for urgent/emergent needs.
- Identify and manage life-sustaining physiologic functions in unstable patients.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
- Current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Iowa
- Current BLS, ACLS, PALS and TNCC certifications
- Mandatory Reporter Training
- Minimum of 1 year of Emergency Nursing experience preferred
- Required to complete all annual competency training and maintain license and/or certification.
