KNOXVILLE, IA – Amanda Phillips, a Registered Nurse in Specialty Clinics, ER, and Med/Surg at Knoxville Hospital & Clinics (KHC), was recognized with the organization’s eleventh annual DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.
The DAISY Award recognizes an individual’s dedication to the nursing profession, patients, and their family members. The award was founded in 1999 in memory of J. Patrick Barnes who died at age 33 from complications of ITP (Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura), thus giving name to award “Diseases Attacking the Immune System” DAISY.
Amanda has been employed at KHC for eight years. In her nominations, Amanda was cited for her heart and soul and dedication to her patients, co-workers, and KHC as a whole.
“When I started at KHC, as my first job in health care, I had a lot of learning to do. Trying to figure out my role and where I fit into everything was challenging, but Amanda taught me so much. She’s a great team player and teaches without lecturing, checks in with her co-workers, and is a wealth of knowledge. In addition to her many other nursing responsibilities, Amanda is a SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) nurse. The compassion she has for the patients gives me so much comfort and I am reassured knowing that she comes in during the middle of the night, weekends, and days off to provide care for these individuals. She defines what patient care is and how it should be upheld. As a mentor to other nurses and as a resource to the hospital, she proves herself to be valuable and deserving of being named the DAISY award winner,” read her nominations.
Each year, the KHC Operations Team selects a DAISY Award winner from nominations submitted throughout the year. Previous KHC DAISY Award winners include Cheryl James, Holly Ives, Kellie Jones, Sandy Cupples, Elizabeth Hembrook, Leah Sims, Rachel Davis, Deb Leffler, Dawn Bender, and Ami Morgan.
