Knoxville Hospital & Clinics Achieves Sleep Accreditation with Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC)

KNOXVILLE, IA – Knoxville Hospital & Clinics (KHC) proudly announces it has for the second consecutive time achieved accreditation through Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC) for sleep testing services. The reaccreditation process occurs every three years.

Accreditation is a process through which health care organizations demonstrate compliance with national standards. Accreditation by ACHC reflects an organization’s dedication and commitment to meeting standards that facilitate a higher level of performance and patient care.

ACHC is a nonprofit organization that has stood as a symbol of quality and excellence since 1986. ACHC is ISO 9001:2015 certified and has CMS deeming authority for Home Health, Hospice and DMEPOS.

KHC partners with Practical Sleep Services and Melisa Coaker, MA, MD, to offer sleep testing both in the home and in the hospital. Home sleep testing offers patients the opportunity to receive diagnostic sleep testing in the comfort of their home for sleep disorders. Sleep testing done in the hospital is appropriate for those who might be experiencing more severe sleep disorder symptoms.

“We are pleased to be able to provide sleep studies to our patients at KHC,” said KHC Director of Respiratory Therapy Gary Woodhouse. “We have always been confident in our quality of care. This accreditation demonstrates we meet and exceed national standards of care in sleep medicine and reinforces that the best care is available right here in Knoxville.”

Sleep disorders can have significant negative health impacts including high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, depression, obesity, and more. Symptoms of a sleep disorder include snoring, breaks and pauses in breathing while sleeping, trouble falling asleep or staying asleep, the urge to move legs or uncomfortable feeling in the legs at night, excessive sleepiness during the day, and reduction in concentration, memory, and attention.

If you suspect you have a sleep disorder, please make an appointment to discuss this with your primary care provider, who can recommend appropriate sleep testing at KHC. For more questions about sleep testing, contact the KHC Respiratory Therapy Department at (641) 842-1465.
