KNOXVILLE, IA – Mallory Krpan, a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department at Knoxville Hospital & Clinics (KHC), was recognized with the organization’s 14th annual DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.
The DAISY Award recognizes an individual’s dedication to the nursing profession, patients, and their family members. The award was founded in 1999 in memory of J. Patrick Barnes who died at age 33 from complications of ITP (Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura), thus giving name to award “Diseases Attacking the Immune System” DAISY.
Mallory has been employed at KHC for five years. In her nominations, Mallory was cited for her heartfelt gesture and dedication to her patients and their family members.
“While driving back from Georgia and shortly before arriving in the KHC Emergency Department, the daughter of a patient was informed that her dad had passed away. After this occurred, Mallory took the time to call the daughter and send her condolences and say what an honor it was taking care of her dad. These words were so compassionate and really took the daughter’s breath away. It gave her peace of mind and allowed her to get through the rest of her drive to Iowa knowing what she was coming back to,” read her nomination.
Each year, the KHC Operations Team selects a DAISY Award winner from nominations submitted throughout the year. Previous KHC DAISY Award winners include Cheryl James, Holly Ives, Kellie Jones, Sandy Cupples, Elizabeth Hembrook, Leah Sims, Rachel Davis, Deb Leffler, Dawn Bender, Ami Morgan, Amanda Phillips, Kyley VanDonsler, and Lori Mallory.
