Knoxville Hospital & Clinics creates $73.8 million impact on local economy in 2023

KNOXVILLE, IA – Last year, Knoxville Hospital & Clinics (KHC) generated 576 jobs that added $31.2 million in total wages and $73.8 million in total gross domestic product to Marion County’s economy, according to the latest study by the Iowa Hospital Association.

“Knoxville Hospital & Clinics contributes to the strength of our county’s economy in many ways and takes great pride in the vitality of our communities which is why it is so important to have a strong hospital,” said KHC CEO Kevin Kincaid. “One way we make a direct positive impact is with the number of area residents we employ and their salaries and benefits. It is important to us that we attract and retain qualified professionals who are committed to being a part of our communities, raising their families here, and sharing in the investment in the future of the area. Another way is caring for the health of our community. The programs and services we offer are designed to help individuals in their efforts to manage their health conditions, and we take that responsibility very seriously.”

Overall, KHC helped create 2.9 percent of all jobs, 2.8 percent of all wages, and 3.5 percent of all gross domestic product in Marion County during the last 2023-2024 fiscal year. As a non-profit community hospital serving Marion County and the surrounding area, we take great pride in providing exceptional care close to home.

The study was compiled from hospital-submitted data to the American Hospital Association’s annual survey of hospitals. The study found that Iowa hospitals employed 137,841 people in 2023. As an income source, hospitals provided over $9 billion in wages. Hospital expenses accounted for over $21.3 billion of the state’s gross domestic product.

“Iowa’s hospitals and health systems implemented the programs and services accounted for in this study in response to their communities’ needs,” IHA President and CEO Chris Mitchell said. “Many of these programs and services wouldn’t exist without hospital support and leadership. With IHA’s advocacy, these efforts help ensure the financial stability of hospitals, making it possible for them to provide the services and programs most needed by the people they serve.”
