KNOXVILLE, IA – Last year, Knoxville Hospital & Clinics (KHC) generated 578 jobs that added $32.7 million in total wages and $79.4 million in total gross domestic product to Marion County’s economy, according to the latest study by the Iowa Hospital Association.
“Knoxville Hospital & Clinics plays an important role in the strength of our county’s economy, and we take great pride in contributing to the vitality of our communities,” said KHC CEO Kevin Kincaid. “One of the most direct ways we make a positive impact is through the number of area residents we employ and the salaries and benefits we provide. Attracting and retaining qualified professionals who want to live, raise their families, and invest in the future of our region is a priority for us. Another key way we support our communities is by caring for their health. Our programs and services are designed to help individuals manage their health conditions and wellbeing, and we take that responsibility very seriously.”
Overall, KHC helped create 2.8 percent of all jobs, 2.7 percent of all wages, and 3.6 percent of all gross domestic products in Marion County during the last fiscal year. As a non-profit community hospital serving Marion County and the surrounding area, we take great pride in providing exceptional care close to home.
The study was compiled from hospital-submitted data to the American Hospital Association’s annual survey of hospitals. The study found that Iowa hospitals employed 141,708 people in 2024. As an income source, hospitals provide over $9.6 billion in wages. Hospital expenses accounted for over $22.9 billion of the state’s gross domestic product.
“These benefits aren’t just numbers,” said Chris Mitchell, IHA President and CEO. “They represent real programs and services that improve lives across Iowa. Many of these initiatives wouldn’t exist without the leadership and commitment of our hospitals and health systems.”
