Don Long Family Donate $500,000 to Create Margaret Long Women’s Imaging Center at Knoxville Hospital & Clinics

KNOXVILLE, IA – The Knoxville Hospital & Clinics Foundation has received a $500,000 gift from Don Long and his family to support the creation of the Margaret Long Women’s Imaging Center, a new space designed to enhance privacy, comfort, and convenience for women receiving imaging services at Knoxville Hospital & Clinics.

The center is named in memory of Don’s wife, Margaret, who passed away in July 2025. A longtime Knoxville resident and dedicated educator, Margaret spent 31 years in education, including many years teaching fifth- and sixth-grade students in Knoxville. She is fondly remembered by generations of students and families for her warmth, patience, and passion for learning.

“Margaret had a tremendous impact on this community, and we are incredibly honored that her legacy will live on through a space dedicated to caring for women in our community,” said Kevin Kincaid, CEO of Knoxville Hospital & Clinics. “The Long family has once again demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to Knoxville and to ensuring our friends, neighbors, and families have access to high-quality health care close to home. This generous gift will make a difference for women for generations to come.”

Construction of the Margaret Long Women’s Imaging Center began in mid-August in the former OB/Infusion Center space at Knoxville Hospital & Clinics. The project will renovate the existing area and bring Mammography, Ultrasound, and DEXA services together in one convenient location. Construction is expected to be completed in December.

The new center will provide a calm, private, and welcoming environment designed with women and their health care needs in mind. Bringing the three imaging services together will also provide greater convenience for patients while creating a dedicated space where women can feel comfortable prioritizing their health.

For Don Long, naming the center in Margaret’s memory is a meaningful way to honor a woman who dedicated much of her life to helping others.

“Margaret loved Knoxville, and she loved the people who make this community such a special place,” said Long. “She spent her career caring about children and their families, and I know she would be humbled to have her name associated with a place that will care for women in our community. Our family hopes this gift will help make a difference in the lives of women for many years to come.”

The gift continues the Long family’s longstanding support of Knoxville Hospital & Clinics and the Knoxville community. Don and Margaret previously made a significant contribution to Knoxville Hospital & Clinics to fund the construction of the Don & Margaret Long Infusion Center, which opened in 2024.

The $500,000 contribution toward the Margaret Long Women’s Imaging Center represents an investment not only in the physical space, but also in the future of women’s health care throughout Knoxville and the surrounding communities.

“Access matters, but so does the experience our patients have when they walk through our doors,” added Kincaid. “This center will allow us to provide important imaging services in an environment that offers women the privacy, dignity, and comfort they deserve. We are deeply grateful to Don and his family for helping us make that vision a reality.”
