This is a fulltime position working 3-12 hour shifts a week.
This position is responsible for admission and discharge functions, obtaining accurate patient demographics and financial information and entering the data into the computerized registration program. The ER Clerk is also responsible for collecting appropriate co-pays and aids with Ward Clerk functions. The ER Clerk maintains an overall understanding of hospital functions to direct patients and the public properly. Answer incoming calls and direct them to the appropriate parties.
Essential Functions
- Admits and discharges patients using computerized systems and obtains accurate insurance and patient information. Guarantees all required consent forms are signed and advance directives are identified.
- Receives and screens telephone calls and connects callers to the appropriate parties engaging in a courteous, friendly and professional manner.
- Perform cashier functions when necessary.
- Ensure doctor’s approval is obtained prior to service being rendered on Medipass patients.
- Develops and maintains an understanding of hospital levels of care
Job Requirements
- HS graduate or equivalent.
- Preferred CNA or EMT certification but not required
- Prior insurance, secretarial and computer data entry knowledge is required.
- Computer, data entry, customer service experience, and BLS certification.
- Mandatory Reporter certification.
- Required to complete all annual competency training and maintain license and/or certification.
