This is a Part-Time position working two 12-hour night shifts a week and up to 1/3 of weekend shifts.
This position is responsible for admission and discharge functions, obtaining accurate patient demographics and financial information and entering the data into the computerized registration program. The ER Clerk is also responsible for collecting appropriate co-pays and provides assistance with Ward Clerk functions. The ER Clerk maintains and overall understanding of hospital functions to direct patients and the public properly. Answers incoming calls and directs them to the appropriate parties.
Essential Functions
- Admits and discharges patients using computerized system and obtains accurate insurance and patient information. Guarantees all required consent forms are signed and advance directives are identified.
- Receives and screens telephone calls and connects callers to the appropriate parties engaging in a courteous, friendly and professional manner. Performs cashier functions when necessary.
- Ensures doctor’s approval is obtained prior to service being rendered on Medipass patients.
- Develops and maintains an understanding of hospital levels of care.
Job Requirements
- HS graduate or equivalent.
- Prior insurance, secretarial and computer data entry knowledge is required.
- Computer, data entry, customer service experience, and BLS certification.
- Mandatory Reporter certification.
- Required to complete all annual competency training and maintain license and/or certification.
