This is a Full-time position mainly working Monday-Friday from 9am-5:30pm with the possibility of working 11am-7:00pm on occasion.
Responsible for carrying out various clerical duties. The clerk is responsible for all registration, pre-admission, and admission functions for all types of patients. The clerk must learn and comprehend pertinent procedures and instructions to classify patient medical records.
Essential Functions
- Initial contact with the patient and is responsible for providing a comprehensive, coordinated, and seamless service to patients.
- Verifies patient information to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Assist the patient through the registration process.
- Obtain current and accurate demographic information as well as verify insurance information.
- Make appropriate referrals to assist the uninsured population.
- Collect required fees and co-pays.
- Obtain proper signatures and process patient changes, including discharges, ensuring that all signatures, billing forms, and information are on file prior to patients’ release.
- Prepare patient receipts and balance cash drawer.
- Perform telephone duties as required and reroute calls to appropriate staff.
- Maintain an overall understanding of hospital functions and escort patients and public to the proper destination.
- Understands and comply with policies and procedures related to medicolegal matters including confidentiality, amendment of medical records, release of information, patient rights, medical records as legal evidence, informed consent, etc.
- Recognizes and reports unusual circumstances and/or information with possible risk factors to appropriate risk management personnel and reports problems, errors, and discrepancies in dictation and patient records to the leader of HIM
- Performs other duties as assigned and requested.
Job Requirements
- High school graduate or GED equivalent.
- Mandatory Reporter training certification.
- Computer use and data entry experience required.
- Knowledge of medical/healthcare and insurance terminology.
- Exceptional customer service skills required.
- Adequate written and oral communication skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision are required.
- Required to complete all annual competency training and maintain license and/or certification.
