This is a Full-time position working 5 days a week, no weekends, no on call.
Under the direction of a registered nurse assists with surgical procedures, provision of therapeutic, preventive and emergency patient care duties, and preparation, operation and maintenance of routine and complex equipment, instruments and supplies. Provides therapeutic, preventive and emergency patient care in an operating room setting. Satisfactory completion of a vocational course in surgical technology. May or may not be certified as a surgical technologist.
Essential Functions
- Responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the surgery department.
- Familiar with/and the use of the specialized equipment used during the surgical procedures.
- Understands the operation and care of all equipment and supplies cleaned and sterilized by the central sterilization department.
- Maintains accurate records on sterilization, charges, and distribution of supplies.
- Decontaminates instruments, containers and all reusable equipment and supplies used within the department and as requested from other departments within the hospital.
- Prepares instruments, containers, packs and equipment for sterilization.
- Performs daily and weekly chemical indicator checks per policy.
- Performs daily and weekly biological indicator checks per policy.
- Acts as a resource person regarding patient care, surgical nursing care and orientation and teaching of staff in the areas of scrubbing, assisting and central sterile processing.
- Other duties as assigned by department director.
Job Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology required.
- One year experience in a surgical department or an acute care facility preferred (intra-operatively).
- Current certification for BCLS.
- Current Mandatory Reporter Training for Child and Adult abuse.
- Must have excellent communication skills and display a high degree of professionalism and empathetic understanding/kindness towards others.
- Must possess those technical skills associated with the tasks and functions delineated under specific duties.
- Must be able to read, write and follow written or verbal instructions.
- Required to complete all annual competency training and maintain license and/or certification.
