This is a Full-time position working 4 days a week 37-40 hours a week.
Responsible for food preparation for patients, hospital staff, and visitors. Works with a dietician to monitor the food and nutrition for the benefit of the patients.
Essential Functions
- Reviews menus & recipes and assembles food supplies and equipment for daily food production. Follows recipe and other production information to complete preparation of assigned menu items.
- Prepares menu items such as meat, poultry, fish, vegetables, casseroles, soups, stews, potatoes, rice, desserts, and salads. Prepares these items by using a variety of kitchen
- utensils and equipment including but not limited to: grinders, slicers, mixers, blenders, ovens, stoves, lowerators, steamtables, steam-jacketed kettles, steamers, and deep-fat fryers
- Plans and coordinates cooking schedules so that foods will be ready at required times. Also follows instructions from Director of Food Services for batch cooking of daily items to facilitate uninterrupted efficient operation of tray line, cafeteria, and other service areas.
- Ensures that all foods prepared meet existing standards for quality, freshness, taste, temperature and appearance. Also holds food samples according to policy and procedure
- Follows directions for the safe and sanitary use of cleaning agents. Cleans assigned areas, equipment and surfaces according to department procedures and schedules. Removes trash to the disposal area.
- Familiar with tray identification system as related to the patient/resident menu program.
- Follows production system guidelines.
- Accurately records statistics to maintain the production system integrity
- Alerts supervisor to problems or needs-concerning equipment, food supply, sanitation, and safety. Detects and reports spoiled or unattractive food or supplies.
Job Requirements
- High school graduate or GED equivalent preferred.
- Must have previous food service and cooking experience.
- Food handler’s certificate or ServSafe certification preferred or agreement to obtain within 60 days from date of hire.
- Required to complete all annual competency training and maintain license and/or certification.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and established procedures.
- Possess abilities to carry out tasks and functions listed under specific duties.
