Unit Clerk – FT Nights

This is a Full-Time position working 3 12-hour shifts 7pm-7:30am, and every third weekend.

The Ward Clerk is a specially trained assistant in the nursing unit who is responsible for the clerical and receptionist functions of the unit. The Ward Clerk monitors telemetry / EKG tracings. They should reflect an atmosphere of calmness and professionalism to patients, visitors, and other health team members through a courteous and tactful approach. The Ward Clerk works cooperatively with other members of the health care team to assist in the attainment of patient goals and to provide a clean, safe and pleasant environment. This position works under the direction of the department Nursing Manager.

Essential Functions

  •  Promptly answers telephone calls and routes call appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Consistently demonstrates competence and proficiency in Ward Clerk responsibilities and procedures.
  • Consistently demonstrates orderliness, neatness, and accuracy in all aspects of work.
  • Consistently demonstrates an awareness and understanding of correct and current unit policies and procedures and techniques to accomplish was clerk duties appropriately.
  • Regularly reviews work in progress to ensure that all responsibilities are expeditiously carried out and properly recorded.
  • Monitors patient telemetry, documents and reports alarms, and patient changes to nurse as needed.
  • Communicates patient information, especially changes in condition and/or prescribed plan of care to appropriate nurses in a timely manner and documents as required.
  • Maintains health testing requirements.
  • Maintains current certifications / training in BCLS. Completes required competencies annually.
  • Attends required unit meetings and in-services or reads minutes.
  • Adheres to KHC compliance policies.

Job Requirements

  •  High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Completion of telemetry monitoring course.
  • Previous patient care experience, telephone, clerical and computer experience required.
  • Current BCLS certification, must be able to read, write and follow written or oral instructions.
  • Current Child and Adult Mandatory Reporter certification.
  • Must display a high degree of empathetic understanding and kindness towards patients and visitors.
  • Must be able to accept direction from nursing supervisors.
  • Must possess friendly attitude and excellent customer service.
  • Required to complete all annual competency training and maintain license and/or certification.
