This is a Full-time position working 36 hours a week.
Responsible for verifying patient information and labeling samples while explaining blood draw procedures to patients. Efficiently and accurately obtaining blood draws and patient specimens. Perform daily technical work in the laboratory testing blood, urine specimens. Supervised by a medical laboratory technologist. Assist with drug and paternity testing.
Essential Functions
- Performs phlebotomy from patients by capillary puncture and venipuncture using sterile techniques with proper procedure to prevent trauma, hematoma, and sepsis. This includes pediatric and geriatric sample collections; age specific considerations apply with proficiency.
- Performs proper specimen handling, ensuring specimens are labeled, recorded, and tested within appropriate temperatures and time frames.
- Records temperature on monitored equipment and records assessment in appropriate place.
- Keeps daily log on to all tests performed by Laboratory in proper order.
- Performs waived capillary coagulation studies as instructed with proper Quality Control.
- Performs Waived Urinalysis and rapid kit testing and follows manufacturer and Lab guideline for operation and documentation.
- Properly reports patient results in accordance to Lab policies.
- Use computer, scanners and systems as instructed within all HIPAA guidelines.
- Performs other tasks as requested by Lab Director.
- Knowledgeable of and complies with the hospital Legal compliance Program and Policy and Procedures relating to hospital safety. Is aware of and practices good safety habits.
Job Requirements
- High School graduate or GED equivalent.
- Prior Laboratory experience preferred.
- License/certifications: Phlebotomy or CLA certification.
- Must be willing to work weekends as scheduled.
- Required to complete all annual competency training and maintain license and/or certification.
