KNOXVILLE, IA – Knoxville Hospital & Clinics provided $2.4 million in community benefits last year, according to a recently completed assessment by the Iowa Hospital Association. That amount, based on 2018 figures, includes nearly $2.2 million in uncompensated care such as charity care, bad debt and unpaid costs of Medicaid.
Community benefits are activities to improve health status and increase access to health care. With uncompensated care and charity care, community benefits include such services and programs as health screenings, support groups, counseling, immunizations, nutrition services and transportation programs.

The results for KHC are included in a statewide report by the Iowa Hospital Association (IHA) that shows Iowa hospitals provided community benefits in 2018 valued at more than $945 million, including more than $253 million in charity care.
In addition to the $2.4 million in community benefit, KHC also generates 290 jobs, according to the latest study by the Iowa Hospital Association. KHC employees earn $13.6 million in salaries, contribute $4.3 million in retail sales and $259,000 in state sales tax revenue.
